Walking in Paris

from 150€

Of course, everyone has heard about morning coffee with croissants, evening bistros, the smell of roasted chestnuts on Parisian boulevards … but for some, Paris is a loud half-gloom of Notre Dame, the quiet whisper of tourists in the Louvre’s halls and the almost deserted, old-fashioned Saint Louis Island. For some, the capital of France is first and foremost the Eiffel Tower, and modern architects travel to Paris to be inspired by the avant-garde lines of the Défense Area and the Montparnasse Tower.

Information about Paris

Paris is at the same time elitist and democratic, cheerful and sad, bright and slightly blurred by the rain, as in Pizarro’s paintings. And to discover Paris for yourself, to fall in love with it and to leave in it a part of soul, it is necessary to visit it.

Parisian hotels

Local hotels have a number of delicate features and it is better to know them in advance. Authentic Parisian hotels are located in the old Ottoman buildings. Although 19th-century houses with wrought-iron bars on the balconies look great from the outside, inside they will “please” you with small rooms, a tiny elevator (where it is at all – otherwise prepare for the rise in the narrow and steep stairs) and the ancient heating system. Of course, it does not apply to hotels in categories 4 and 5*, in which the rooms meet all modern requirements – but the price starts from about 300 EUR per day.

Another important point: the “star” system of Parisian hotels is rather conditional – it depends on a number of factors, not all of which are important to every tourist. For example, if you are traveling with no baggage or have booked a room on the ground floor, having an elevator at the hotel will not help you – but will add to the extra cost of the room.

Cafes and restaurants in Paris

The French capital is a great opportunity to arrange a gastronomic tour without leaving the boundaries of one city, because Paris has carefully absorbed all the intricacies and nuances of the cuisines of different provinces of the country, mixed, flavored with spices and now gives fine portions under the light of Michelin stars. Expensive? Sometimes, even if it is just ordinary rural ratatouille. But literally across the road – much cheaper, more democratic and still amazing. Delicious? Of course, there is no doubt about that. And only the one who tasted onion soup and frogs’ legs  and discovered all the most delicious secrets of Paris can laugh at them .

If from one mention of France, abundant salivation begins and the baguettes crackle is heard, it is definitely time to travel.

Transport in Paris

Public transport

Buses

Paris buses are convenient if you want to combine a trip with a city view – they are numerous, comfortable and fast enough, as they use dedicated lanes. Each stop is equipped with numbers and a route map – you can quickly understand the intricacies of the bus network.

Trams

The Paris trams have the same problem as the RER (local trains): they go to the suburbs and are able to take you much further than necessary, and the controllers are happy to take advantage of your mistake.

A one-way ticket + costs 1.80 EUR and gives the passenger the right to travel on all modes of transport within the city – from RER to the funicular at Montmartre, in the metro by ticket + it is possible to get to any station. You can buy it at any box office, with a book of 10 tickets (carnet) costs 14,10 EUR, and the price of one trip will be significantly lower. Children up to 3 years old travel free of charge in Paris and from 4 to 10 – twice as young as adults (EUR 7.05 per 10 tickets). With this ticket you can take the subway to RER and back within two hours (or from the bus to the tram – in this case the ticket is half an hour shorter).

Rent of transport

Bike

If you are a fan of healthy lifestyles you will find the Parisian Velib service. The principle is similar to Autolib: registration is required and a deposit of EUR 150 (it will be blocked on your credit card). Access to the service per day will cost you 1,70 EUR. The first half an hour is free, the second will cost 1 EUR, then the tariffs grow exponentially.

Car

In order to rent a car in a Paris rental office, it will not be enough to have only national driving licenses in your hands – you will need an international license. Be prepared for age restrictions too – the younger the driver, the more expensive it will cost him to rent a car.

Taxi

There are three tariffs in the taxi: tariff “A” (0.89 EUR/km) is valid from Monday to Saturday from 7:00 to 17:00 within the city, tariff “B” (1,14 EUR/km) – on weekends and holidays, night and outside of the city within Greater Paris, tariff “C” (1,38 EUR/km) on weekends and holidays, as well as at night outside the city within Greater Paris.
