Holidays in Rome

from 150€

An eternal city where all the roads lead, where you can live your entire life in one vacation for a day or for a few weeks. The concentration of monuments in Rome reaches such magnitudes that in just a couple of hours in this city, the heart and brain of a poor tourist begin to refuse to accommodate new ones. Therefore, spending a day or two in Rome is simply a crime. You can come here again and again and again.

Information about Rome

The main thing is to realize that Rome is not Italy. Consider it a separate state or even a separate world. Rome is terribly old and forever young, it has seen the heyday and fall of one of the largest civilizations on the planet. Not surprisingly, its entire historic center is declared a World Heritage Site.

Hotels in Rome

The main focus of hotels in Rome is around the main train station, where Ukrainian travel agencies like to settle their clients. There are both nice establishments and shocking in size hotels, where 3 square meters are managed to shove all the necessary attributes of hotel life: bed, wardrobe, bedside table, etc. The cost for two per night ranges from 100 EUR.

There are no less hotels in the area of Campo de Fiori and the Pantheon. Paying 120-150 EUR per night, the tourist will admire the magnificent views of the domes and cathedrals of Baroque Rome every day. You can also search for hotels near the Plaza de Spain.

Do not forget about the so-called apartments. They cost no less, about the same 100 EUR (but not for two, but 3-4-5, etc. people), but instead of one room with a shower the tourist will live in a spacious two or three bedroom apartment with kitchen, hallway and full bathroom. As a bonus, the apartment adds the feeling of being a full-fledged resident of Rome: greet neighbors, buy milk at the nearest supermarket for breakfast, and take out the trash.

What to try

Pizza in all its manifestations, delicious ice cream from old family gelaterias, coffee, coffee and once again coffee.

Lovers of non-alcoholic pops are advised to hunt for a local drink of  gods – “chinotto”, an unusual and fragrant soda water from the extract of bitter orange. Try several different varieties and find the best one. The unusual refreshing taste of chinotto will make you long (and most likely unsuccessfully) run around the Ukrainian groceries: unfortunately, this drink is rarely brought to us, if not by accident.

Little drinking fountains are scattered all over Rome: you can and should drink water from them! It is much tastier than some Ukrainian mineral water and absolutely harmless, since it is still delivered by ancient aqueducts. In addition, it is economical: once you buy a bottle of 0.5 liters of water paying about 2 EUR for it, you can constantly replenish the stocks of healing moisture absolutely free of charge in these fountains.

Land transport

A large network of buses pervades the whole Rome, including the surrounding area, and tram lines complement the system perfectly, allowing you to travel without delay during rush hour. Buses often drive past small stops, do not hesitate to wave your hand.

Underground

The subway is not particularly large, with only 3 lines, new stations are being built slowly – a cause in numerous historical sites and archeological sites. But for fast travel around the city, the subway is perfect, it will not be difficult to understand the scheme – many stations are tied to world-famous attractions. The metro runs from 5:30 to 23:30, Saturdays to 1:30, the interval of trains from 5 to 15 minutes.

River trams

It is possible to ride the Tiber on river trams from March to November, navigation is closed in winter. Ticket price depends on the service and duration of the tour. The simplest will cost a couple of euros for the transition from Tiberin Island to the Duke of Aosta Bridge, excursions with dinner – from 60 EUR.

It will cost around EUR 30 per hour to stop in the traffic jam. For travel outside the city (for example, to the airport) there is a special fixed fare.

Car

Renting a car in Rome is not a problem, it’s more important to understand why you need it. If this is not your first visit to the city and you planned a trip around the area with sightseeing of medieval castles in Bracciano, resting at the seaside, visiting country museums and amusement parks, then take advantage of the services of major international services in advance – Europcar, Rentalcars and many others. There are also plenty of local rental offices on the market, which may be a bit lower, but be sure to study all the terms of the contract carefully.
