Turkey is not only the great beaches of the four seas, but also the magnificent Istanbul with the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace, thermal springs of Yalova and snow-white Pamukkale, Cappadocia monasteries, skiing and great shopping.

Information about Turkey

The most popular tourist programs can be roughly divided into two groups: those programs that have become a parable about beach kayaking (which if desired can be diluted with excursions) and a full-fledged “sightseeing”, a separate line in which Istanbul is held. Sandy Turkey is the budget Kemer and Alanya, the family Side and the active Belek, the prestigious Antalya and the Marmaris, the secluded Fethiye and the mass of lesser-known resort towns. The historical-excursion Turkey is the legendary Troy (by the way, a visit inside the horse is included in the obligatory visit program), the ancient Ephesus with the ruins of libraries, theaters and temples, the travertine terraces of Pamukkale and the bath of Cleopatra, the world’s first mausoleum, from which this name derives, King Mausoleum, the remains of the Lycian kingdom, and more. And of course, Istanbul, the description of which can not accommodate even the most chubby guide.

Hotels in Turkey

Turkish hotels – is big and very versatile topic: choosing a destination for your holiday in the country, you should always consider specific options, without relying solely on the number of “stars” on the facade. Two 4* hotels, located at a distance of 200 m, can be strikingly different from each other.

In the winter on the Mediterranean coast, there are all fives with indoor pools, as well as hotels specializing in thalassotherapy and hotels with their own golf courses. As for winter resorts, in Palandoken, hotels are generally 4-5 *, half board to ultra all inclusive. Uludaga hotels are relatively small, with a maximum of 80 rooms. In the “healing” Kangale and Yalova accommodation is offered in hotels of the type of sanatoriums: there are no special comfort and service.

The quality of the hotels in Istanbul and the level of service in them are highly dependent on the area where they are located. For example, in the shopping district of Laleli (district of shoppers) it is slightly lower than in other places of the city.

Cuisine and restaurants of Turkey

Pillars of Turkish cuisine: beef (rarely lamb), legumes, vegetables (tomatoes, onions, garlic, eggplants), mass of various spices, rice and bread as the main side dishes. Popular dishes are made mainly of minced meat – a variation of kebabs and meatballs, grilled or stewed in a sauce. An indispensable part of the meal – “meze”: a bunch of containers with tiny portions of all kinds of cold snacks (if you do not curb your appetite, only “meze” can be eaten enough).

It is worth trying Turkish sweets – endless baklava and rahat-lukum. Of the beverages, as elsewhere in the East, the most popular are coffee and tea. You should try “boza” – a mixture of water, flour and sugar, and “sahlep” – sweet milk with orchid root and cinnamon. Known alcoholic beverages: “raky” (a strong liqueur with anise flavor), many varieties of good local wine and beer (Efes, Tekel Birasi).

Bus

It is most convenient to travel between the cities of Turkey by bus – large tourist, air-conditioned or compact dolmush. The first ones go due to a schedule and offer a level of service right up to the suite, for popular destinations it is recommended to book tickets in advance. Others are reminiscent of our shuttle buses and set off when all the seats are full; about any comfort, except seats, here it is not necessary to speak. But dummies ply even between very small settlements where there are no big buses.

Train

On the trains of Turkish Railways it makes sense to move on several popular routes. For example, to get from Istanbul to Ankara: tickets – 71 TRY, travel time – from 4 hours. In other cases, the travelers will encounter inconvenient docking and the need to make a solid hook to reach their destination.

Plane

Finally, long distances within the country can be reached by plane: flights from Turkish Airlines, Onur Air, Pegasus Airlines and Atlasjet connect all major cities in the country, and tickets are sold at reasonable prices. Flight from Istanbul to Ankara will cost from 300 TRY (in the air – about an hour), to Antalya – from 120 TRY (1 hour 15 minutes), to Bodrum – from 150 TRY (1.5 hours).

Public transport in cities

The transport network in the Turkish cities is quite developed: there are taxis, buses, in Ankara and Istanbul – there is also a subway. Buses are both private and public: the former can be paid in cash, the buses in the latter are purchased in advance (1.95-4 TRY). Standard operating time is 8:00 – 0:00. Dolmushas only accept cash, the cost of the trip depends on the distance (on average – 3-7 TRY). The subway in Istanbul and the capital are both a familiar subway and light metro lines connecting major tourist areas. Trams also run in Istanbul – a great way to get around sights.

 Car rent

To rent a car in Turkey, you must have a driver’s license, cash deposit or credit card (though most services do not accept them) and be 21 years or older. The car can be rented from $ 30 per day, the cost of the rental includes its delivery to the hotel and insurance. The car is issued with a full tank, in the same condition it should be returned.

You cannot drive with a mobile phone without a handsfree. Seat belts are mandatory for all passengers. The maximum amount of alcohol in the blood is 0.05 g / l.
