Information about the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic is a fertile land stretching east of Haiti surrounded by waves of the Caribbean. The capital is the hot Santo Domingo, the home of reference cigars, a cradle of incendiary merengue.
The first association with Dominican Republic is the endless beaches of amazing beauty: with white sand, spreading palm trees, tender sea – indispensable attributes of tropical paradise. But this is by no means the only thing that captures travelers. There are many worthy attractions here: architecture that incorporates island traditions and features of European styles, national parks with breathtaking nature. And yet – a whole palette of entertainment for adepts of outdoor activities. Dominican lives in the rhythms of bachata and salsa, inviting everyone to dive into the cheerful atmosphere of a world where every day is like a little holiday.

Cuisine and restaurants of the Dominican Republic
The Dominican cuisine can be briefly described as an unusual but delicious mix of European, African and local recipes. It is based on the widespread use of legumes, bananas and vegetables (including exotic ones) in original combinations with meat and fish. Traditional dishes are considered, for example, the “bandera” – a stew of meat, fried bananas, beans, rice and salad, thick soup “asopao” and fried pork “puerko-en-puya”. But fish and seafood, despite the island status of the Dominican Republic, are not very popular.
The average check in a good cafe – 1500 DOP, in a prestigious restaurant – 1500-2000 DOP per person.
National drink – rum, it is produced here more than 15 varieties. The most popular are “Brugal”, “Barcelo” and “Bermudez”. The local brands of Kiskeyia, Seniza, “Presidente” and “Bohemia” have quite decent quality. The original taste has the traditional local alcoholic drink “pru” – the result of the fermentation of the juice of the eponymous plant.
There are an incredible number of restaurants and cafes in the Dominican Republic with a variety of menus and reasonable prices. Basically, Caribbean cuisine is served here, but fans of other gastronomic traditions, European, Asian or American, will find the place to their liking. For an introduction to authentic Dominican cooking, comedores are ideal: small family-run cafes with a homely atmosphere. A full meal here will cost from 170 DOP (in small towns) to 300 DOP (in the capital).
