Information about Israel
Israel boasts a well-deserved year-round popularity: some go here to plunge into ancient history, others – to repair shaky nerves in the healing expanses of the Dead Sea (which, incidentally, is not too persistent – because of the salts the water is too thick), others dive in general anesthesia on the operating tables of the best doctors, the fourth – again to dive, but already in the Red Sea, with scuba diving, the fifth – to spend a vacation on the beach, doing nothing. And young people often go to Israel also in order to get distracted at private parties at local nightclubs in the rhythms of trendy music and aromatic smoke clubs.
Hotels in Israel
Israeli hotels do not have a “star” rating: there is a “class” system instead. As there are many hotels of the world chains in the country, the tour operators establish their classification, based on their more or less objective estimates. It means that when choosing a hotel in Israel, you should focus not on the number of stars, but on a specific list of services and room descriptions.
Tel Aviv hotels charge a deposit.
Those city hotels that operators define as 4*, usually without pools, as opposed to five-star hotels. Both the “five” and “four” are usually pleased with the spacious rooms.
Accommodation rates vary by city. For example, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem are expected to be more expensive (approximately 20-25%) than Haifa or Netaniya.
Israel’s cuisine and restaurants
Native people from different countries live in Israel, so the cuisine is also very diverse. There are many restaurants in the country: Chinese, French, Indian, Moroccan and others. The menu is usually printed in Hebrew and English. Portions are large, but they are worth a lot.
From meat dishes, which traditionally have a lot of spices and greens, it is worth trying “jewish meat” and “meorav jerusalmi” – a dish of four types of chicken meat. From vegetable dishes here are recommended various salads, hummus, “falafel”, cold beet soup, potato pancakes and fried zucchini. The local Maccabi beer is also quite tasty. Most kosher desserts: eggnog, roasted apples, pancakes, gingerbread with almonds.
Kosher kitchen
The main limitations of kosher cuisine: pork and seafood are not available as a class. The meat of ruminants and fish that have scales and fins are allowed. Dairy and meat products are served strictly separately. Meat with blood is also prohibited. Note that these restrictions do not make the local cuisine diverse enough, and if you like, any non-kosher products can be found in Arab shops or restaurants.
If you meet a bakery on your way, don’t pass by. Baking in Israel is simply stunning: mini pizzas, tuna patties, potatoes, spinach, cheese, and oriental sweets are good. You will lick your fingers!
All cafes and restaurants in Israel are divided into kosher and non-kosher. Kosher can be both a fish restaurant and a children’s ice cream parlor. Also there are plenty of establishments of Arabic, Turkish, Mediterranean and other cuisines in the country. Kosher cuisine makes sense to look for in small cities where most residents are religious, or in non-touristy neighborhoods of big cities.
In Israel, small cafes are very popular, similar to French bistros, where they sell coffee, lemonades, pastries and sandwiches, as well as hummus. These are small cafes serving hummus as a main course, which is prepared according to their recipe in every establishment. One serving is usually enough for two and costs no more than 30 ILS.
