Information about South Africa
On first acquaintance with South African toponymics, it seems that the cities of old Europe, tired of fighting volcanic eruptions and immigration problems, in full composition withdrew from the site, picking Victorian hemispheres, effectively crossed the Mediterranean Sea, resolutely moved to the edge of the Earth: Pretoria and Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, Durban, and even more – East London – are the newcomers to the scorched expanse of humanity’s cradle. The fault of all the British colonialists, in the early 19th century, opened the paradise region of South Africa – virgin, diamond and resort.
Usually, tours in South Africa are not very cheap – but those travelers who can afford them do not regret about the money they spent. Not surprisingly, this country is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the African continent. A tart mix of ancient African cultures and modernity, unusual nature, penguins living next door to antelopes and crocodiles, fantastic Dragon Mountains, the legendary Cape of Good Hope and beautiful nature reserves … yes, there is something to see in South Africa!
Hotels of South Africa
The hotels in the country are high-end, with the level of service fully in line with international standards. The choice is wide ranging from budget options to luxury five stars. National parks and reserves offer all kinds of accommodation: campsites, bungalows, chalets, huts and loggias. Their interior is completely in tune with the appearance of the animal: animal skins, wooden furniture, in general, all are traditional African style.
The mains voltage is usually 220 V, 50 Hz (with the exception of Pretoria: 230-250 V and Port Elizabeth: 200-250 V).
Most plugs come with three round pins, but there are devices with two smaller pins as well. Adapters can be found on sale, but not everywhere.
Kitchens and restaurants
Restaurants in South Africa are quite good – both in terms of service, and especially with its diverse cuisine. It is worth to try the meat of “caru lumb”, slices of dried beef “biltong”, meat of fish, poultry or pork in pots with vegetables and rice “biriyani”, and for dessert – spicy roast with samusas meat ».
The wine industry is also developed in the country – wines from Stellenbosch, Parlia, Franchuk, Constance and other regions deserve the most attention. Also interesting are national “epltaizer” and “graptizer”, a kind of sparkling fruit juice drinks. The most famous beer brands are Castle and Lyon, although Ohlsons, Hansa, Windhoek and Hunters are popular, as are many of the world’s beer brands.
Tips in the country are common. They are left to waiters at restaurants (up to 10% of the bill), carriers at hotels and airports (up to ZAR 5 for each suitcase or bag), taxi drivers (up to 10% or rounding the counter), guided tours, and so on.
