Information about Tanzania
Safari is the main attraction of touristic Tanzania. To shout out “look, look, an elephant eats” or “wow, what a cat” here, tourists from all over the world come to Tanzania. There are still few Ukrainian citizens among them, and there are absolutely no “budget” tourists: safaris are not cheap fun.
However, with all the merits of national parks, combined tours here are more popular than safari. And this is not surprising: the white sand beaches, rich underwater world and interesting excursions of Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia attract tourists tired of the mainland safari, no less than elephants and big cats.
Hotels in Tanzania
The hotel base of the country is very diverse. There are both “loggias” (of very good level, but also very expensive), and more than simple hotels for 2-3 rooms, as well as campsites. Most Zanzibar hotels offer half board accommodation (usually breakfast and dinner), and most safari lodges have full board.
Zanzibar Island is dominated by an “Arab” style of service (completely unhurried), but the level of service is gradually starting to pick up on the European one. There are no claims of customers’ to loggias, you can even say that this is probably the best place in terms of service.
The country has a standard voltage of 220-240 V. In the loggias and decent stationary tourist camps, the generators also supply a standard voltage of 220 V. The sockets are of the British standard”(adapter required).
Although there are a lot of hotels in the country, sometimes it is hard to find a room, so it is better to book a tour well in advance, especially on “peak” dates.
Kitchens and restaurants
Here it is, a heavy legacy of the colonial regime: Tanzanian restaurants usually serve no pickled elephant meat and no wart chops, and banal British dishes include soups, steaks, fried chickens, boiled vegetables and puddings. Asian restaurants cook better, but not so many. However, there are enough small African restaurants where you can try local cuisine without risking your health. The basis of their menu – dishes based on bananas (sweet, potato-like) and goat meat.
Local beer – cheap and tasty, still imported from Kenya or South Africa, but it is more expensive. It is better to take imported wine from Europe or South Africa, and with strong drinks you can try the local papaya vodka – “konyagi”.
