Travel around Vietnam

from 1100USD

Vietnam is remarkable for its beautiful nature, ancient temple complexes and quality hotels with good service and low prices. The capital of Hanoi and the bustling Saigon-Ho Chi Minh City, Halong Bay and Phan Thiet Resort are all about Vietnam.

Information about Vietnam

There is an opinion that Vietnam is the same Thailand, only more natural, not so “captured” by tourists. In fact, these are two completely different countries, each with its own attractions, and in Thailand there are quite wild places, and in Vietnam – resorts with the most advanced infrastructure. Real Vietnam is the ancient temple complexes of past civilizations and the natural beauty of national parks, healthy and tasty food, the world’s cheapest diving and resorts with a distinct European fleet. In addition, you can get enough nostalgia for the recent socialist past: the flag – well, almost like our previous, and pioneers in ties are there, and even a leader in the mausoleum.

In Vietnam, the solid advantages: an unusual and exciting sightseeing program, beautiful beaches with great opportunities for outdoor activities, large and high quality hotel base, low prices in hotels, restaurants, excursions.

Hotels in Vietnam

In the major cities of Vietnam, the choice of hotels varies from mini-hotels to luxury establishments. Service in them at the average European level. Type of food – breakfasts (mostly) or half board, the all-inclusive system is almost non-existent here. The buffet is extremely varied. All 3 to 5 star air-conditioned rooms have satellite TV and a telephone, bathrobes, a hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, safes and minibars are also more expensive.

Placement prices are kept roughly the same throughout the year. A night at a luxury hotel in Hanoi will cost from VND 1 850 000 per night for a room for two, in a four star hotel – from VND 740 000, in a good 3 star hotel – from VND 200 000, and to stay overnight at a hostel will cost from 80 000 VND per day per person.

Cuisine and restaurants of Vietnam

Vietnamese cuisine is a separate reason for traveling to this country: in terms of the variety of culinary traditions, Saigon is quite capable to win all its neighbors in Southeast Asia. The peculiar spices, unusual ingredients, Chinese influence and subtle notes of French heritage give Vietnamese dishes an unforgettable taste and richness.

Although Vietnamese cuisine is “omnivorous” (down to fried grasshoppers in newspaper balls instead of seeds), it is quite light and healthy despite its unusualness. The products here are not subject to long heat treatment, the basis of the kitchen – rice, noodles and spices, herbs and vegetables, chicken, pork, various seafood.

Many dishes are flavored with fermented fish nuok mam sauce – its smell can be terrifying to the unprepared eater, but when used properly, it makes ordinary fried rice with chicken a true work of art. This product is virtually indispensable for the Vietnamese: from dressing to rice dishes to emergency medical supplies. They say that taken in half a glass of undiluted drug  is guaranteed to prevent the cold.

Expensive restaurants are usually located in major cities – Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Danange. Catering is mainly represented by small street cafes and coffee shops. They are usually open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, at other times many of them are closed. The entire range is on display: you can easily handle the choice without even knowing the language. The traditional menu is rice pancakes with toppings, fried shrimp, tofu cheese, chicken, fish, vegetables and, of course, rice. The food can be taken out or dined right here at tables with small low stools. They may seem awkward at first, but you get used to it pretty quickly.

Almost anywhere in the city, you can eat sandwiches with chicken, pork, cheese or shrimp for 10,000-12,000 VND. Rice with chicken or pork in a small cafe will cost 20 000-30 000 VND, soups “pho”, “bun-bo-hue”, “lao” – 20 000-40 000 VND, there you can also try rice rolls “nem- nuong »- rice flour pancakes with vegetables, fish or soy stuffing, deep-fried.

Transfer to Vietnam and travel across the country

Getting to Vietnam

Qatar Airways and Emirates Airlines flying from Kiev (Boryspil) to Hanoi with a single change in Qatar or United Arab Emirates. From Odessa you can reach Vietnam only with a change in United Arab Emirates (Emirates ), with two flights to Dubai and Bangkok (Emirates + Vietnam Airlines), and from Lviv to Ho Chi Minh City with one transfer in Istanbul can be reached by Turkish Airlines.

Vietnam can also be reached via China. There are two daily trains running between China and Vietnam: Beijing – Hanoi (from 304 USD, journey time – 37 hours) and Nanning – Hanoi (from 37 USD in a double compartment, travel – 11.5 hours). Both trains depart from China in the evening and arrive in Hanoi in the morning.

Travel across Vietnam

Plane

Inland flights are great for moving between  cities of Vietnam. Prices are low, ticket prices start at 900,000 VND.

Train

Vietnamese trains are comfortable and follow the schedule clearly. The main route is Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City, travel time – 30 hours, the fare – from 1 100 000 VND.

Coupes in cars are 4-seater (2 tiers) and 6-seater (3 tiers). Many of the trains are old and have not been repaired for a long time, so on the road, they are quite shaken. Tickets for the train are sold at the ticket offices and on the website of Vietnam Railways.

Bus

Intercity buses are good for short-distance trips: constant speed limits on routes result in unnecessarily long journeys. On the other hand, bus fares are low: you can reach Hanoi from Ho Chi Minh City for just 450 000 VND.

Public transport in cities

Urban transport is well developed only in major metropolitan cities: it is a taxi, various motorcycle and bicycle rickshaws. Taxis do not need to be fixed in advance: all cars have a counter, and taxi drivers usually have little knowledge of English. Trip cost: 5500-9500 VND per km plus 15 800-23 700 VND per landing. Motorcycle and bicycle rickshaws ask for 15 800 VND for 15 minutes of the journey, however, the payment should be agreed in advance and traded in this case is simply necessary.

As far as buses are concerned, they should be avoided whenever possible. There are only 13 routes in the capital, the system of stops is strange and confusing, and there is no timetable. But it’s cheap: about 2000 VND per trip.

Rent of transport

Car

Renting a car in Vietnam is best “bundled” with a local driver, as traffic in the country is very poorly organized, the rules are rarely followed and you can easily get into an accident. The rental price is usually calculated either by mileage or by day. 1 km will cost from 4500 to 6500 VND depending on the company and the distance of the trip (the further, the cheaper), in a day will take from 800 000 VND.

If you still decide to drive yourself, then you will need to issue local Vietnamese driving licenses (provided you have Ukrainian or international, of course). They are issued in rental offices with a visa of 3 months. This is usually done quickly, but you may need to take a small road safety test.

The cost of renting a car in large rental offices starts at about VND 500,000. A deposit is also charged on the contract. Local renters are tempted by low prices – from VND 100,000 per day, but you should contact them. As a rule, these cars are not insured, and their technical condition are not good.

Bicycle or motorcycle

In big cities and tourist centers, you can rent a bike or a motorcycle. Second – it is easier and more convenient, you do not need a driver’s license, but it is strongly recommended to take a motorcycle, only being fully confident in your driving abilities. The bike will cost about 20,000-40,000 VND, a motorcycle – from 50,000 VND a day. Before renting it, be sure to check the brakes, horn, fuel gauge and lights. Of course, no alcohol, always a helmet and comfortable shoes.
